Teen girl sexually assaulted in Norway House

RCMP are warning people about walking alone in Norway House Cree Nation after a teenage girl was abducted, taken to a remote location and sexually assaulted.

Their initial investigation indicates the 16-year-old was abducted while walking alone in Norway House Wednesday night at about 10 p.m.

She reported the man who abducted her was a stranger and he was driving a black, four-door older-model car.

The community, located about 460 kilometres north of Winnipeg, has an RCMP detachment. Mounties there asked anyone with information to call them at 204-359-6483 or their local police or Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

The teenager was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries in hospital, the RCMP statement said.
