Teen killed in crash near Brandon

A car crash late Sunday evening near Brandon took the life of a 17 year-old driver, bringing the total number of car-related deaths over the weekend to five.

The 17 year-old was driving his Chrysler Sebring on Rugby Road, when he crossed the Trans-Canada Highway and was struck by a west-bound pickup truck. The 46 year-old driver of the pickup and his 20 year-old passenger were lightly injured. The driver of the Sebring was taken to Brandon Regional Health Centre and pronounced dead.

The highway has since been reopened, and RCMP continue to investigate. The weekend saw four other people die in car crashes, including a 14 year-old boy and a 71 year-old woman.
