Boy on dirt bike killed in collision with car near Virden

A 14-year-old boy was killed in a car-dirt bike collision Wednesday evening in southwestern Manitoba.

Virden RCMP said the teen, who lived in the RM of Wallace, was riding a dirt bike south on Provincial Road 252 at about 8 p.m. when his bike collided with a vehicle travelling east on Highway 257.

The vehicle was being driven by a 36-year-old female, also from the RM of Wallace.

Virden RCMP, EMS and the Virden Fire Department responded to the subsequent 911 call. The boy, who had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, was taken to the local hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

The police investigation continues.
