Tharp to receive key to city

A legendary choreographer will receive the key to the city.

Mayor Sam Katz's office confirmed Twyla Tharp will receive the honourary Winnipeg award at city hall on Friday.

Tharp is currently in Winnipeg working on the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's production of The Princess and the Goblin. Tharp's career has spanned four decades and she has choreographed many works to classical music and made a reputation marrying ballet with popular music on Broadway shows such as the music Movin' Out.
