Three Winnipeggers attacked at WE Fest; Minot man charged

  • Print

Three Winnipeg men were lucky to escape with only minor injuries after being attacked by a knife-wielding stranger at a popular country music festival in Minnesota.

The Becker County Sheriff’s Department said the incident happened earlier this month at WE Fest in Detroit Lakes.

Aaron Williams, 32, is charged with three counts of assault. The resident of Minot, North Dakota appeared in court Monday and entered not guilty pleas. He remains free on bail and will return to court later this year.

According to police, the victims were trying to stop a "heavily-intoxicated" man who was going around the campground trying to shock people with a Taser stun gun in the early morning hours of Aug. 7. The accused then pulled out a small pocket knife and slashed at the trio, who were treated and released from a nearby hospital for cuts to their arms.

The three-day festival is one of the largest of its kind in the United States.
