  • Print

Three teenagers were injured by bear spray in separate incidents in the West End on Friday night.

Winnipeg police spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshen said today that an 18-year-old man and 18-year-old woman were walking near Ellice Avenue and Banning Street when three suspects came up to them and sprayed bear spray at the man.

The man went to the Health Sciences Centre for treatment.

Michalyshen said later, at about 9 p.m., the same woman was walking with a 16-year-old male near Notre Dame Avenue and Pearl Street when the same three suspects came up to them and sprayed more bear spray at them. The pair were injured in the attack.

Police were called and they were able to arrest all three suspects.

Michalyshen said police don’t know whether the suspects followed the victims to the hospital after the first incident.

A 21-year-old man, 20-year-old man, and an 18-year-old woman are facing several charges including assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.

Police are continuing to investigate.
