Three people face robbery charges after a Saturday night beating and theft behind Portage Place mall, police said this morning.

A 38-year-old man suffered serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries around 10:30 p.m. and had to be rushed to hospital.

Police were called to the rear of the mall after reports came in announcing a man was being assaulted by three suspects. On arrival, three people were seen leaving the area.

Patrol units and the police helicopter initiated a search for the suspects, and by 10:40 p.m., two were located near Edmonton Street and Graham Avenue. A third was nabbed a short time after on Portage Avenue.

The victim's property was recovered, said police.

Three men, 42, 25 and 25, face robbery charges and were detained in custody. One of the 25-year-olds was on probation at the time of his arrest, said police.
