On Aug. 7, during the mid-morning, an armed man robbed the Birks store on Lombard Avenue. The man ordered staff to the ground and began smashing display cases. He stole more than $100,000 in jewelry and then fled the city.

Last Friday, Winnipeg police arrested the man on the TransCanada Highway west of Elie.

The 36-year-old Toronto man has been charged with robbery and disguising himself with intent to commit a crime.
