Woman dies after Trans-Canada Highway collision

An 80-year-old Portage la Prairie woman has died after a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway around 4:30 p.m.

Portage la Prairie RCMP and local emergency services responded to the collision, which happened at Highway 1 and Yellowquill Trail in Portage.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP say she was driving north across Highway 1 at the intersection, which was controlled by a stop sign, when her vehicle was struck by a westbound car.

A 35-year-old Winnipeg woman in the westbound vehicle was transported to Portage General Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Officers expected the westbound lane on the Trans-Canada Highway to remain closed until around 10:00 p.m.
