The Canadian Association of Journalists announced Tuesday that two Winnipeg Free Press journalists are among the finalists nominated for outstanding investigative journalism in Canada for 2011.
Reporter Mary Agnes Welch was nominated in the print category for Sniff: Life at Rock Bottom, a chronicle of the epidemic of solvent abuse among addicts in Winnipeg’s downtown core. Photographer Joe Bryksa was nominated in the photojournalism category for his portfolio entry.
The winning entry in most categories will receive a $500 cash prize. Winners will be announced April 28, 2012 at the CAJ Awards gala as part of the 2012 CAJ Conference to be held at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.
Global National anchor and executive editor Dawna Friesen will host the awards presentations.
