Two injured as small plane overshoots runway at Altona Airport

Two Altona residents were injured Monday night when their small Piper aircraft overshot a grass runway at the Altona Airport, RCMP report.

The pilot, a 70-year-old man, and a 65-year-old male passenger, were taken to the local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The plane landed at the Altona airstrip in the RM of Rhineland at about 8:30 p.m. and continued rolling along until it came to an abrupt stop in a drainage ditch.

RCMP said alcohol is not considered a factor.

The incident is being investigated by the RCMP and the Transportation Safety Board.
