Two men escape vehicle before it catches fire after rollover

Two men were able to escape a vehicle before it caught fire after rolling into a ditch Tuesday afternoon, RCMP said.

The driver, 20, from Brandon, and a  passenger, 21, from the Westman area, were taken to hospital where they were treated and later released.

The west-bound 2005 Chevrolet Blazer went out of control and rolled into the ditch about 4:50 p.m. on Provincial Road 459, in the RM of Whitehead, near Highway 1, RCMP said.

RCMP from Brandon, Souris and Carberry were dispatched to the rollover.

The crash remains under investigation with assistance from a RCMP traffic analyst.

Alcohol and speed are being investigated as contributing factors, RCMP said.
