Four people were taken to hospital following a horrific crash in the North End Friday night.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., two trucks collided near the corner of Main Street and Alfred Avenue. One of the vehicles left the road and smashed into a small auto dealer on the corner, destroying the chain link fence that surrounds the business.
One truck flipped over and came to rest on top of some parked cars in the lot.
Dozens of onlookers arrived and watched emergency crews extract the people from the truck moments after the accident. Police eventually cleared people from an adjacent parking lot just north of the scene due to the threat of a gasoline leak.
Police had the southbound section of Main between Logan Avenue and Burrows Avenue closed throughout the night. Police tape finally came down Saturday morning.
Three people were taken to hospital in stable condition, with a fourth listed in critical condition. That person has since been upgraded to stable, a police spokesman said Saturday morning.
