University of Manitoba graduate students are holding an emergency meeting at 5 p.m. over a university proposal to more than quadruple their continuing fees by the fall of 2016.
Students who have completed their course and program work now pay $703 a year while working on their master's or doctoral theses.
The U of M wants to increase that fee to $1,500 in September, to $2,000 the following September, and to $3,000 in the fall of 2016.
The university takes its proposal to the provincial council on post-secondary education on Friday.
