The University of Winnipeg is creating the first position of its kind in Canada: a Chair of Co-operative Enterprises.

The chair created by the faculty of business and economics aims to strengthen the co-op movement and develop socially responsible entrepreneurs.

The chair position is launched with a total of $625,000 by a collaborative partnership that includes the Province of Manitoba ($250,000), Federated Co-operatives Ltd. ($100,000), the Co-operators Group ($100,000), and Credit Union Central of Manitoba ($100,000).

Assiniboine Credit Union, Arctic Co-operatives and Red River Co-operative chipped in $25,000 each.

The funding announcement is the first for U o W’s newly created Future Fund, with a goal of raising $15 million to support and enhance academic innovation on campus.
