A Via Rail train from Winnipeg to Vancouver is delayed by over 30 hours.
The train was supposed to be in Winnipeg at 12 p.m. Thursday, but ended up getting pushed until 12 p.m. today.
When the train arrived in Winnipeg they found a defect in one of the cars, delaying the train even longer while the car is being replaced. So far, passengers have been waiting on the train in Winnipeg for over seven hours.
A spokesman for the company Jacques C. Gagnon said the train, which travels back and forth between Vancouver and Toronto, was late getting to Toronto because numerous freight trains along the tracks were having mechanical problems.
"We informed the passengers of the first delay by phone or by email, so they didn’t have to wait for a really long time," said Gagnon. "We had to change the car [in Winnipeg] for safety purposes."
He said that Via Rail will take every possible measure to compensate the passengers who have been delayed.
