Video promoter arrested in child porn sting
A local man who was allegedly recruiting teen runaways for child porn videos is in custody.
Winnipeg police said they have charged Darrell Erwin Ackman, 43, with several child prostitution related charges.
"These children were preyed upon, taken advantage of and exploited," Insp. Gord Perrier said this morning.
Perrier said police had Ackman under surveillance for two years, when he first emerged in Winnipeg promoting himself as Mr. Jetz TV and recruiting young people to appear in videos that were not illegal.
However, Perrier said a recent raid at a residence in the city led to the seizure of video cards and computer equipment that support the charges.
Perrier said there is an outstanding arrest warrant from Florida on Ackman, who was charged in 2010 for prostitution-related charges.
A joint operation involving several Winnipeg police units and social services agencies began in November 2011, Perrier said, which focused on individuals preying on high-risk youth.
Perrier said it’s alleged Ackman made several child pornography videos that were intended for sale.
Ackman was arrested July 23 on charges of living off the avails of prostitution and additional charges were laid Tuesday, including: two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference, making/publishing child pornography, possessing child pornography, and invitation to sexual touching.
Perrier said police have identified four female victims so far and believe another eight young girls – all under the age of 18 years – are either victims or witnesses.
