Winnipeg snowbirds will have another option to flee the winter later this year.
Beginning Nov. 1, WestJet is offering direct flights from Winnipeg to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the airline and Winnipeg Airport Authority announced. The flights will take place on Saturdays, with a 7:30 a.m. departure time out of James Richardson International Airport and a return to Winnipeg at 5:16 p.m.
"Fort Lauderdale is a popular destination for Manitobans in the winter, especially for those who make their winter homes in southern Florida, so it has been on our radar for some time," Scott Marohn, WAA director of air service and product development, offered in a statement.
WestJet and the WAA believe the new travel option will further connect Manitobans to vacation destinations and cruises in the Florida region.
