Winnipeg labour market to remain positive, survey says
Winnipeg employers expect a positive hiring climate for the second quarter of this year, according to the latest survey by the ManpowerGroup.
"Survey data reveals that 20 per cent of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter (April to June), while two per cent anticipate cutbacks," said Vincent Stycke, spokesman for Manpower’s Winnipeg office. The remaining 78 per cent said they intend to maintain current staffing levels.

"With seasonal variations removed from the data, Winnipeg’s second quarter Net Employment Outlook of 12 per cent shows a slight increase when compared to the previous quarterly outlook of eight per cent," Stycke said. "It is also a nine percentage point increase from the Outlook reported during the same time last year, indicating a favourable hiring pace for the upcoming months."
Canada also has a Net Employment Outlook of 12 per cent for the second quarter, the employment-services firm said. That’s down slightly from the first quarter of this year and the second quarter of 2012.
However, results for the second quarter do represent a continued trend of respectable hiring patterns seen over the course of the last year, the company added.
