Winnipeg protest today against Ottawa's Omnibus Bill

  • Print

Protesters upset over the Conservative’s budget bill are expected to take to Winnipeg streets again today, while MPs in Ottawa gear up for a possible voting marathon on Omnibus Bill C-38.

Protesters are expected to meet outside Conservative MP Joyce Bateman’s office at 611 Corydon Ave. at 4 p.m. to protest the bill.

The campaign, called "Joyce has a Choice," aims at pushing the MP for Winnipeg South Centre to vote against Bill C-38 and have it split into many different bills.

Other protests are expected outside Manitoba Conservative offices.

There will also be a discussion at the University of Winnipeg at 7 p.m. tonight between environmental organizations, scientists and the public about what the bill means for the environment.

MPs may start a marathon of voting this afternoon on the budget bill, which has 800 amendments. The bill could change up to 70 Canadian laws including those on environmental assessment and employment insurance.
