More than 100 Winnipeggers of all ages and walks of life gathered for 30 minutes of silence today by the Gandhi statue at The Forks. As lunch-hour traffic roared past, the crowd stood, sat and kneeled in silence to think about the suffering of others in conflict zones around the world.
There were no flags or signs at the event — just silence. Organizers said they plan to hold silent vigils at the site every Tuesday over the lunch hour.
