City waiving fines for residential parking bans

Winnipeggers who forget to move their vehicle during the snowstorm clean-up will not be ticketed.
City of Winnipeg streets maintenance manager Ken Boyd said officials decided not to issue fines before launching Monday night's residential plowing operation.
Winnipeg was initially set to implement 12-hour residential parking bans last year, but there was not enough snowfall to warrant plowing residential streets. This year, Boyd said the November snowstorm hit before the city did another public education campaign to alert citizens to learn their designated snow zones.
Boyd said the city will pay for the cost of towing vehicles to nearby streets for this winter storm from its snow-clearing budget. On Monday he said close to 500 vehicles were towed to make way for plows, and another 2,700 received warnings.
Winnipeg's 311 hotline has received between 1,100 and 1,200 calls from citizens inquiring about their snow zone or where their vehicle has been towed to since Saturday.
Tonight, crews will plow zones B, G, J, L, P, Q, and T. Residents can find out their zone by logging on to knowyourzone.winnipeg.ca or phoning 311.
