Winnipeg's Pride parade eyes global fight for rights

An organizer of the city's upcoming 26th annual gay pride festival said the fight for rights isn't just local but global.

Craig Theriault, vice-president of Pride Winnipeg 2013, said the theme of this year's events will be "EquALL."

"Our goals are to create equality for all persons, and particularly, the LGBT community. So it's something that we thought be interesting to put to the front," said Theriault, at an event launch this morning at Delta Winnipeg.

He said the fight for rights for GLBT people is still evident in countries such as Uganda.

The Pride parade last June attracted about 30,000 people, he said. In 2014, the city will be hosting about 100 Pride parade organizers from across Canada.
