A man attempted to sexually assault a woman on Main Street Wednesday night, police said this morning.

The 24-year-old woman was walking in the 600-block of Main Street around 8 p.m., when she was grabbed from behind by a man with a weapon, who tried to pull her into a nearby bushy area.

The woman broke free, ran off, and contacted police.

The  attacker is described as a large, aboriginal male, with a large belly and an acne-scarred face, about 30 years of age with long dark hair and a thick build. He was wearing a black sweater with a hood and black shorts.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 204-986-6245 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-8477.
