Woman fights off purse-snatcher

  • Print

A young woman was tackled from behind in an attempted purse snatching Friday night in the 100 block of Plaza Drive in Fort Garry.

She suffered lower-body injuries, police said Saturday.

Police have a 14-year-old in custody.

The woman, 23, was walking east on Plaza Drive just before 11 p.m. near a shopping mall when she noticed someone following her. She tried running away and reached the mall's parking lot before she was tackled from behind and fell.

She sustained the injuries in the fall but kept a tight grip on her handbag when the suspect grabbed it.

They tussled briefly over the bag before the suspect gave up and fled.

Police picked him up in the same area shortly after the woman called police.
