A 29-year-old woman is in critical condition after being hit by a train just after midnight.
RCMP spokeswoman Sgt. Line Karpish said Portage la Prairie RCMP and local EMS responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a train at the intersection of Fisher Avenue and 8th Street NW in Portage la Prairie around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
"Officers and EMS arrived at the scene and found a 29-year-old Portage woman near the railroad tracks. She was transported to Portage General Hospital and transferred to a Winnipeg hospital where she was last reported in critical but stable condition," Karpish said.
"Early indications are that the victim was walking in very close proximity of the eastbound slow-moving cargo train when the incident occurred. Portage RCMP and CN Police continue to investigate," Karpish said.
