  • Print

A night out with friends turned violent on Friday for a 35-year-old woman who was seriously sexually assaulted by a stranger.

The woman was socializing with friends on the south side riverbank of the Assiniboine River, west of the Donald Street Bridge. When the group dispersed, the woman was walking alone in a wooded area and confronted by an unknown man.

The woman was incapacitated and lost consciousness, at which point a serious sexual assault occurred.

When the woman regained consciousness, she fought back against her attacker. Her cries were heard by the group of friends who had begun to disperse. Police were notified and the suspect fled the area.

Police are searching for a suspect who's described as aboriginal in appearance, approximately 35 years-old, 170 pounds, with short black, unkempt hair, a pockmarked face and a slight moustache. The suspect was wearing dark clothing and white runners.

Any extra information from the public related to the incident can be phoned into members of the Sex Crimes Unit at 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
