Woman suffers smoke inhalation from St. James house fire

Firefighter crews were called out early this morning to a house fire at 448 Albany St. in St. James.

A woman in the home was taken to hospital in stable condition after suffering smoke inhalation.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says the fire broke out about 2:30 a.m. in the basement of the storey-and-a-half wood frame house near Silver Avenue. Flames spread to the main floor. Seven emergency units were called to the scene.

Damage to the home and its contents is estimated at $150,000.

The cause is under investigation.
