A thrill to see three bear cubs frolicking in yard

Elaine Wiens was getting her morning coffee last week when, glancing out the kitchen window in her home near Ste. Anne, she saw three black-bear cubs, two playing in her bird bath.
"I was just so excited to see three," she said. "I've never seen that before."
So Wiens got her camera.
The three cubs and their mother stuck around about 10 minutes on the morning of July 5, she said, two playing with the bird bath, the other sticking close to mom.
"One was lying down eating a corncob," she said. "They're just adorable."
Wiens took pictures from her kitchen window as one cub managed to climb into the bird bath while the other started drinking from it. She said the cub sitting in the bird bath was trying to drink too, but couldn't seem to manage with its sibling in the way. "I guess he just cooled his feet," Wiens laughed.
It isn't the first time she has had bears on her lawn. She's seen bears and other animals every year since she moved into the home in 2003. "From my kitchen window, I see birds, deer and whatever else," she said.
