Babysitter saves her charges from house fire

THREE children survived a house fire yesterday in the RM of Coldwell, thanks to the swift actions of their 14-year-old babysitter.

The teenager was babysitting three children, ages 8, 9 and 10, on Tuesday morning when she spotted flames in the family's home.

The babysitter quickly escorted the children to safety and called 911.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at about 9:30 a.m., and arrived to find the house totally engulfed in flames.

Lundar RCMP say damage to the home is extensive and the babysitter is to be commended for the safe evacuation of the children.

"Thanks to her quick action, there were no injuries," Lundar RCMP said in a statement Tuesday.

Lundar RCMP continue to investigate the incident. The home is presumed to be a complete loss.
