Barn fire kills 12,000 chickens

A barn fire Friday afternoon on a poultry farm near Manitou killed 12,000 chickens, the RCMP said.

A passerby saw smoke coming from the barn at about 3 p.m.

No one was in the barn at the time.

The barn is considered a total loss. Early estimates place the dollar value of the damage at $500,000.

The RCMP and the Office of the Fire Commissioner are investigating but the fire is not considered suspicious.
