Ottawa provides $106,000 for Cree culture educational project

The federal government is providing $106,000 to the Manitoba Museum for a new Cree culture educational project for northern Manitoba schools.

Winnipeg South MP Rod Bruinooge announced the funding on behalf of Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore at the museum this morning.

"Throughout the north, we have one of the largest Cree populations," said Bruinooge. "(The project) is something that I think is really going to make a big difference here in Manitoba."

The project will see educational kits, including historical artifacts, sent to northern school districts and used for teacher training at the University College of the North, starting this fall.
