Man turns himself in after shooting

Police said a 22-year-old man turned himself into Portage la Prairie RCMP Sunday after a shooting last month that hurt a young woman.

The shooting happened Oct. 21 inside a residence on the 300 block of Furby Street.

Police said the incident was domestic. A 20-year-old woman with gunshot wounds went to hospital and was later released.

Police said Jared James Smoke, 22, is charged with attempt murder, two counts of possess prohibited firearm, two counts of possess firearm while prohibited and possess controlled substance, among other offences.

He is in custody.
