Manitobans set all-time booze-buying record
The $3.6 million rung up at Manitoba Liquor Control Commission stores on Dec. 23 was the largest provincial total ever for a single day, MLCC spokeswoman Diana Soroka said today.
The previous record was $3.4 million set during last year’s Christmas season.
"Typically the 23rd of December is our busiest day of the year," Soroka said. "That’s sort of like the last full working day before Christmas. Usually by the 24th people are already starting to entertain."
Soroka said that while booze sales have slipped in some parts of the country due to the uncertain economic times, Manitoba’s liquor sales are holding up.
"We tend to be bucking the trend across the country where other provinces have seen sort of a decrease in sales. We’re continuing to see an increase," he said.

I agree, not an impressive headline, however I hoped that everyone was responsible, both at home and at the wheel.
