Providence College gets $550,000

Major post-secondary institutions in Manitoba, aren’t the only ones getting a slice of the stimulus pie.

Providence College and Seminary, a Christian school in Otterburne, Manitoba, will receive $550,000 to help fund two of its ongoing projects.

Manitoba’s senior MP and President of the Treasury Board Vic Toews made the announcement Thursday, as part of the Knowledge Infrastructure Program, a two-year, $2-billion federal economic stimulus program to support infrastructure improvements at post-secondary institutions.

The money will help Providence create a small wind farm to reduce the electricity it draws from Manitoba Hydro by 50 per cent. The money will also help the college develop an interactive distance education program, where students can interact in real-time with professors and classmates.
