The French Voyageur explorers of early Canada have left many legacies, two centuries after they paddled the hinterland.

Now their snacks are among them.

A Manitoba-based company is launching a snack today inspired by the voyageurs.

Yumpeez snacks, made from organic peas, were launched today at Fort Gibraltar, home of the annual Festival du Voyageur, which begins tomorrow.

The protein-rich, low-fat snack was developed by Best Cooking Pulses in partnership with the Food Development Centre in Portage la Prairie.
