Three teens charged after theft of semi

WINNIPEG — Police have arrested three 19-year-old males in connection with the theft of a semi-truck trailer and about $32,000 worth of damages that ensued after the alleged theft.

Constable Jacqueline Chaput, public information officer with the Winnipeg Police Service said the incident started at about 3:15 a.m. Thursday morning at a parking lot in the 100 block of Higgins Avenue.

Police say a truck was taken from the lot and crashed into a garbage disposal unit causing about $2,000 damage.

The truck then rammed into a house in the 700 block of Talbot Avenue, pushing it off its foundation and causing another $10,000 damage.

The truck then ran into a number of parked cars in the Kent Road and Manhattan Street area causing more than $20,000 in damage to the vehicles.

Police say the truck eventually hit a tree in the 400 block of Kent Street and the suspects attempted to flee the area but were caught a short time later by police on the scene and members of the canine unit and the stolen auto unit.

The three youth face a number of charges. Two were released on a promise to appear and the third was detained in the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

thank goodness they were released. Now they can do more damage and have some fun on the weekend. What a sick society that lets people out on the promise to appear in court rule. Criminals just laugh at the justice system.
