Two Manitobans get medals for bravery
Two Manitobans were recognized earlier today for past heroic efforts as Governor General Michaelle Jean announced the recent honourees of Canadian Bravery Decorations.
Jimmy Victor Beardy and Paul Linklater rescued two children from a house fire in Thompson on Dec. 18, 2004.
They are now being honoured with a Medal of Bravery for their heroic efforts. The medal is awarded in recognition of an act of bravery in hazardous circumstances.
The Bravery Decorations were established in 1972 and include the Cross of Valour and the Star of Courage in addition to the medal, in accordance to varying degrees of risk.
Along with 11 other decoration recipients, Beardy and Linklater will receive their awards at a ceremony to be held at a later date.
