Two arrested in connection with August shooting death

WINNIPEG -- A 15-year-old boy is one of two people charged with the August shooting death of a Flora Avenue resident.

Winnipeg police announced the charges this morning following the investigation into the August 11 shooting death of Scott McGillivray, 26.

McGillivray was shot after two men fleeing a home invasion unexpectedly came upon him in the back lane of his Flora Avenue home.

Police said two armed individuals had forced their way into a home in the 400-block of Flora. Five occupants of the home were forced onto the floor while the suspects searched the home. They fled with a purse.

While fleeing, they ran into McGillivray, who lives in the same block and who had gone outside for a cigarette. McGillivray was shot in the upper body. He was taken to hospital in critical condition where he died.

The charges against the 15-year-old include second-degree murder, three counts of careless use of a firearm, and two counts of possessing a weapon.

Police also charged an 18-year-old man with the same offences but because he was 17 at the time of the killing, his name cannot be released.

Both individuals are being held in custody.
