Youth services organization consolidating properties

WINNIPEG — Macdonald Youth Services is planning to build a new main facility to replace a scattered group of aging buildings and rental properties.

Executive director Erma Chapman said the organization’s programming is scattered around seven buildings and rental spaces in the city.

The group is working on plans with the LM Architectural Design Team for a new riverfront building on Mayfair Avenue, where most of the buildings are located.

‘We do want to make use of a very beautiful piece of property here, and also make it attractive from the city view," said Chapman.

Chapman said the new building would house most of the organization’s services, which include a youth resource centre, an eight-bed shelter, and a mobile crisis team. The main priority is offering a safe and comfortable environment for youth, she said.

Macdonald Youth Services marks 80 years in operation this year.
