Bus stabbing suspect still at large

A man was stabbed following an altercation on a Winnipeg Transit bus, police say.

Two 20-year-old men were on a Route 11 bus travelling eastbound on Portage Avenue on Saturday evening.

A third man got on the bus and approached them, and a fight erupted. One of the 20-year-old men was stabbed during the altercation, said police spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshen.

When the other 20-year-old tried to intervene, the suspect fled. The two 20-year-olds then got off the bus near Portage Avenue and Tylehurst Street and fled to a nearby home, where officers later found them.

Police say the victim and the suspect knew each other and had an ongoing dispute.

The victim is in stable condition and is facing charges in relation to breaching conditions of his sentence order. He was detained.

Investigations are ongoing. Michalyshen said they are reviewing surveillance footage in search of the suspect, who remains at large.
