Librestream app versatile
LIBRESTREAM Technologies Inc., a Winnipeg company that has developed industry-leading video collaboration technology, has released an app that lets customers use its secure technology on the popular iPhone, iPad and PCs.
Marieke Wijtkamp, Librestream's marketing vice-president, said many of the company's large corporate customers were using iPhones, iPads and other devices in their business functions and there was a desire to have Librestream's Onsight technology compatible with those devices.
"Current video apps don't provide the interactive experience, collaboration tools, real-world bandwidth performance and enterprise-grade security that operations workers need in their environments. With developments in device processing power and camera capabilities, along with Apple's growing install base within the enterprise market, the timing was right to release our Onsight Connect App," said Kerry Thacher, Librestream's president & CEO, in a statement.
DiaMedica realizes $1.7M
WINNIPEG-BASED DiaMedica Inc. has received gross proceeds of $1.7 million after the completion of an early exercise warrant incentive program.
The early exercise program resulted in the exercise of about 1,189,300 warrants at about $1.50 a share.
DiaMedica is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of novel therapeutic compounds for diabetes and other major, medically unmet diseases.
DiaMedica's shares closed down seven cents to $1.82.
A First Nations brokerage
WINNIPEG-BASED Tribal Wi-Chi-Way-Win Capital Corp. (TWCC) is continuing its efforts to create a one-stop shop for aboriginal financial services with the launch of lower-cost institutional pension and insurance plans for aboriginal people.
TWCC Insurance Partners LP (TIPI) is an insurance brokerage service formed in partnership with long-standing First Nations-owned insurance operations -- FirstPlan Benefits, First Commercial Benefits and First Commercial Brokers.
Alan Park, chief executive officer of TWCC, said the new brokerage will target bands and other aboriginal organizations to shop around for the best possible rates on group pension plans.
TWCC is owned by five Manitoba tribal councils. Since 1993 it has made about $40 million in development loans to aboriginal businesses and in the last few years has branched off into other businesses, including Aski Financial, which offers employer-benefit lending as an alternative to payday loans.
Nordstrom ventures north
TORONTO -- Nordstrom is the latest U.S. retailer planning to set up shop north of the border.
Officials from the department-store chain and Cadillac Fairview are to announce Canadian store plans at a media briefing in Toronto on Thursday. The announcement will relate to Nordstrom's entry into the Canadian market and will identify store locations in Cadillac Fairview shopping centres nationally.
According to previously published reports, the Seattle-based retailer is expected to open in four locations, including a trio of prime Sears Canada locations set to be shuttered this fall.
Sears Canada announced in March it would sell back leases for three of its stores to its landlord, Cadillac Fairview, for about $170 million.
Locations at the Pacific Centre in Vancouver, Chinook Centre in Calgary and Rideau Centre in Ottawa are set to close by the end of October.
