On their steamy bucket list

FROM 1956 to 1994, Disneyland had a cable-car ride called the Skyway; the gondolas were known as buckets. Officially, it was closed because of structural fatigue. But Tom Hanks has another story.

The actor who plays Walt Disney in Saving Mr. Banks, and he told Conan O'Brien the other night that while researching the role he picked up a lot of Disney lore. Including this:

"One of the problems was, there were a lot of people trying to join, let's call it, the Mile High Club in the sky buckets... there were people that tried to, how do we say this, get the deed done."

Quite a challenge: The ride lasted barely 41/2 minutes.

The author who wrote from the grave

ENJOYED all 400,000 pages of the Girl with a Dragon Tattoo novels, did you? Then book another long vacation for 2015, when volume four comes out.

Yes, author Stieg Larsson died in 2004. So what? Have you seen those sales figures?

The Bookseller says publisher Norstedts Frlag has hired Swedish writer David Lagercrantz to keep Lisbeth Salander going. Alarmingly, Larsson planned a 10-novel series.

Fat is a four-letter word

TODAY'S conversation-starter: Jennifer Lawrence, in ABC's Barbara Walters year-end interview show Wednesday night:

""It should be illegal to call somebody fat on TV. I mean, if we're regulating cigarettes and sex and cuss words because of the effect it has on our younger generation, why aren't we regulating things like calling people fat?"

Diaper Harder

BRUCE Willis and his wife Emma Heming are expecting their second child, Us Weekly says.

He's 58. She's 35. Their daughter Mabel is 21/2. His three kids from his time with Demi Moore are now grown: Tallulah is 19, Scout is 20, Rumer is 25.

Taking a break

IT'S a relationship pause for Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, says

"There was a realization before Thanksgiving that they took things way too fast and were rushing toward a marriage that neither of them particularly needed," Nameless Insider told the website. "They've decided to take a break to re-evaluate their romance."

They've been together since 2011. He's 33, she's 39.

A Bentley,

by George

PRINCE William and Duchess Kate and little baby Prince George have got a new ride: an armoured Bentley with a top speed of 320 km/h. They're leasing, as other royals do.

It's a model called the Flying Spur. I don't know how much they're paying to lease, but they could have bought one for just 250,000 pounds -- call it $385,000.

Let's see here: walnut interior, Wi-Fi, triple-glazed, bullet-proof windows, hardened-steel armour, etc. etc.

Bentley's website boasts the Flying Spur proves "the twin objectives of power and luxury can, if relentlessly pursued, be achieved." Come to think of it, that's not a bad slogan for a royal family, either.

For the love of Liz

COLIN Farrell told Ellen Degeneres the other day his friendship with Liz Taylor was "the last kind of romantic relationship I had. Which was never consummated."

They were friendly late in her life, after meeting in 2009; he was 34, she was 75.

The two celebrities first met in 2009, and not very often thereafter, but they did a lot of late-night phone-calling. "We'd talk for a half an hour, an hour, into the wee hours. It was really cool. I just adored her... I wanted to be (husband) No. 8, but we ran out of road."

Body of evidence

HEY, if Gwyneth Paltrow can make a bundle by giving the whole world fitness and lifestyle advice, then anybody can do it.

That seems to be the thinking behind Cameron Diaz's new project, a feel-better book with the title The Body Book: The Law of Hunger, the Science of Strength, and Other Ways to Love Your Amazing Body.

I see by this press release that Cam "shares her formula for becoming happier, healthier, and stronger in this positive, essential guide that is grounded in science and inspired by personal experience." I'll take two.

Yours for under $20 a copy, from Harper Collins.

Kicking Kate

CAROL Alt, once a top model and now yet another lifestyle guru (diet cookbooks and a Fox TV healthy-living gig), takes a rip at Kate Upton in Galore, a web mag.

She calls Kate "a product of great media hype. Without Sports Illustrated, I'm not sure she would've made it in the industry as a high-fashion model. Because she is more of a large-size model... I think Kate is very good at, hmmmm, how do I put it? She's engaging. She comes to the set prepared to work, in a good mood, engages her client... "

Alt is 53. Upton is 21.
