International Co-operation Minister Bev Oda resigned Tuesday. Several of our readers raised a celebratory glass of orange juice to mark her departure.
Another one down... 163 to go! I predict Dean Del Mastro will be next. It is obvious that this government has lost touch with Canadian core values.

Why can no government manage to resist the rot that sets in after a few years? No Conservative minister would have dreamed of taking such liberties back in 2006 after Harper's first win, but now, over six years later, it appears that many of them live high on the hog.
I guess the inevitable next step is the voters will toss this bunch out and let the cycle start again with another party at the helm.

Like the saying goes, power corrupts. Thankfully, contrary to what all but the most rabid, partisan people think, most MPs are actually hard-working, if not particularly effective. The public has helped turned politics into the blood sport that it is, which in turn scares off many talented people from running for office.

It is a good start! How many more do they need to before they reach minority status... I liked them better that way!

I have no doubt that after a short time, Mr. Harper will find a nice safe plum job for her as a reward for saving him the trouble of dropping her from the next cabinet shuffle.

Still, it's disturbing that too many people yawned when she was changing documents after the fact, denying it all the way, admitted later that she was responsible, not to mention previous indiscretions and all people seemed to care about was a extremely overpriced glass of orange juice.

Harper ought to have known she was not up to the task and I blame him for giving her a cabinet position, never mind letting her stay in that position once her lack of competence was demonstrated. She may very well have been a competent MP, but she was waayyy out of her league in the cabinet.
I feel for the constituents of her riding who voted for her and suspect that many just voted for the big blue "C" and never considered the candidate. This should be a lesson for the rest of us, consider the person as well as which party they run for. You never know who will get selected to cabinet and when they fail miserably, it reflects badly upon those who elected them.

They should get rid of her position, too. Why exactly do we need a minister of international co-operation? Aren't a minister of foreign affairs, minister of international trade and minister of state for foreign affairs enough?

I've never liked her either, but the fact is that she is a cigarette addict. She changed hotels so she could smoke in her room. Get over it.

I think Bev Oda would have been trampled next election, very surprised she wasn't last election after the 'NOT' scandal. But $16 OJ will do that.
However, for Vic Toews, pardon the overused saying, but the Conservatives could run a monkey under the blue banner in his riding and still win. Same with Pat Martin in his riding.
Perhaps that's the reason for both of their 'interesting' behaviours.
