Churchill students name bear Aurora

THE newest polar bear at the Assiniboine Park Zoo finally has a name.

The zoo announced Wednesday the 11-month-old female cub will be known as Aurora. According to officials, the name was chosen by Grade 2 students Avery Finlay and Aurura McDonald following a naming contest held at Duke of Marlborough School in Churchill.

A glass of wine and Aurora will be set.

"The students at (Duke) also named Storm, the three-year-old male bear that recently came to the zoo from Churchill. It was such a wonderful experience for everyone involved, it only made sense to have them select the name for the newest cub, as well," said Brian Joseph, zoological director.
