City crews smoke out skeeters again

WINNIPEG -- City fogging crews were set to return to Winnipeg streets Saturday night -- if the weather co-operated -- due to an increase in mosquito activity.

Until further notice, crews will fog with Malathion on a daily basis between 9:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m., officials said.

Locations will be released at least eight hours in advance; to find out where city crews will be fogging, people can visit the city's website at www.winnipeg.ca/bugline or call 311.

All buffer zones will be respected: Crews will not fog within 100 metres on each side of a registered property on the front street, side street, and rear lane.

The insect-control branch planned to fog in areas of Transcona, St. Boniface, St. Vital, Charleswood, and St. James if the weather allowed.

Fogging does not take place when temperatures are below 13 C and/or wind speeds or rainfall are not conducive to fogging.

Environment Canada called for temperatures around 17 C Saturday night with a 30 per cent chance of showers.
