Consultant will help with Corydon plan

A city committee voted to continue work on a Corydon-area planning process with the help of an independent consultant.

On Wednesday, council's executive policy committee directed the public service to hire an outside consultant to help oversee secondary plans for the neighbourhood. They are to report back on a strategy for the process in 60 days.

Earlier this week, Mayor Sam Katz met with property and development chairman Coun. Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan), Coun. Jenny Gerbasi (Fort Rouge), community representative Carla Richmond, business owners Jerry Cianflone and Jeff Rabb and city administration to discuss the planning process.

Council's property committee voted last week in favour of a motion by Coun. Russ Wyatt (Transcona) to stop work on the neighbourhood plans after the Corydon Avenue BIZ and several business owners sent a letter to Gerbasi and other city officials, calling the process a "stop-growth plan."

Wyatt said Cianflone contacted him about concerns with the planning process, and he advised Cianflone to put his concerns in writing and speak to the property committee.

On July 4, Wyatt hired Cianflone's son, Anthony, as his executive assistant. "There's no conflict," Wyatt said. "If Mr. Cianflone had hired my son, then I think there would be a conflict, but my son is five years old. There's definitely no conflict."
