Deanna Troi coming but not Chekov

WALTER Koenig, the actor who played the Russian navigator Chekov on the original Star Trek series, will be unable to steer his way to this weekend's Central Canada Comic Con due to illness, according to Jennifer Jordan-Roncadin, publicist for this weekend's convention centre event.

Brent Spiner, a.k.a. Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation, who cancelled his appearance last year, will also not be attending, according to the convention website.

As a kind of consolation prize for the absence of Koenig and Spiner, the convention is bringing in actress Marina Sirtis, who played Deanna Troi on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Nichelle Nichols, Uhura on the original Star Trek.

The convention is still scheduled to host the Next Generation's Patrick Stewart, Dean Cain, Bruce Boxleitner, Billy Dee Williams and Tia Carrere.

The Central Canada Comic Con takes place Friday to Sunday, Nov. 2 to 4.
