TERRY Duguid will carry the Liberal banner in Winnipeg South in the next federal election.

Duguid, a former Winnipeg city councillor, will be nominated Monday at Canad Inns Fort Garry, a Liberal press release said Sunday.

"I am honoured to be nominated as the Liberal candidate for my community," said Duguid in the release. "I feel strongly that Winnipeg and Manitoba deserve better representation in Ottawa, and I look forward to being part of Team Trudeau in the coming election."

In the statement, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau said: "I am thrilled that Terry Duguid will be our Liberal candidate in Winnipeg South. Terry has a profound understanding of the local issues and concerns of Winnipeggers, and he brings extensive experience as a community organizer in this city."

Winnipeg South is currently represented by Conservative MP Rod Bruinooge.
