THERE'S an art to headline writing.
You have to sum up a story and sell it to the reader in just a couple of words.
While there are many creative and clever headlines in today's Free Press, the one atop Allen Abel's column on J6 of our FYI section is certainly not one of them.
What you will find on that page is a reminder to an editor to write a headline to fill the space above the column. And due to some production errors, the intended headline never got placed before the presses started to roll for the section that is preprinted Friday afternoon.
Here is the intended headline: "Talk of new military draft chills Americans."
And here is our promise to ensure the art of headline writing also includes a better job proofreading.
